Updating Your Wardrobe After A Tummy Tuck
Tummy tucks are great surgeries for women who have a lot of excessive skin they need removed from their belly. However, losing all of that skin will make your old wardrobe a little out of date. Here's how you can update your wardrobe after a tummy tuck.
How Many Inches (And Sizes) You Can Lose
Tummy tucks are not typically a way to lose a massive amount of weight. Instead, it is a way to remove excessive skin from your body (such as leftover skin after weight loss or a pregnancy) to give you a nicer and more toned body. That said, you can still expect to lose anywhere from two to 20 pounds in skin weight, with the procedure being done at your lightest.
But how many inches and sizes will you drop? Again, that will vary depending on how much skin you've lost. Some people will drop only a size or two, while some cases have seen women drop 18 inches and several sizes in a matter of months. Wait until your surgery has healed to gauge your true loss.
Finding Inexpensive Temporary Clothes
After your tummy tuck, you are going to need to buy some temporary clothes to hold you over while you wait for the surgery to heal. After losing so much skin, you should be able to fit into smaller sizes. However, you shouldn't try anything too small just yet. These temporary clothes are designed to look better on you than your pre-tummy tuck clothes and to cost very little. The following places are the best ways to get inexpensive temporary clothes while you wait to heal:
- Thrift shops
- Pawn shops
- Giveaways
- Friends and family members
- "Slightly used" new clothing stores
Investing In A Totally New Wardrobe
As your tummy tuck starts to settle and you get a better feel for how many inches of loose skin you've lost, you can start to invest in a more permanent wardrobe to replace your temporary one. It should take no more than a month or so to fully recover from a tummy tuck.
At that point, your tummy should be healed enough to try on new clothes--ones that fit your new, trimmer self. Make sure to buy multiple wardrobe items, including pants and shirts, to create a new fashion that looks great for you.
Typically, you're going to want to wait until you're fully recovered to start wearing tighter clothes, as they may interfere with the healing process. Keep tabs on your healing process with your doctor to make sure it is going as smoothly as you both hoped.
